  • Mixed Softball Rules

    1. 2 Strikes equals an out, 3 balls equals a walk. There are arcane rules on the number of fouls, but I won't go into that here
    2. There can be 10 persons on a roster, and the batting order must alternate man/woman. If only 4 women show up for the game, the team can only play 8 people (which would put us at an enormous disadvantage, so we really need the women to show up every game).
    3. If a pitcher walks a man, he takes second base automatically and the woman who is up behind him can choose to either bat or take an automatic walk.
    4. Run Rule: If a team is leading by 15 runs after 3 innings, the game is over. If a team is leading by 10 runs after 5 innings, again, the game is over.
    5. Every game stops after an hour or seven innings, whichever happens first (unless the Run Rule applies, of course).
    6. Women hit an 11-inch softball. Men hit a 12-inch softball.
    7. We are on a 'D' league, so any "over-the-fence" home run is an automatic out.
    8. On a 'D' league, there are infinite roster substitutions.
    9. Any games that are "rained out" will be announced via e-mail to those working at TouchNet. "Rainouts" will be made up at the end of the season.

    Game Theory

I have never managed a baseball/softball team before. So you are the guinea pigs for my theory of recreational league softball.
    1. Fun - We will have fun. We may lose most (all?!?!?) of our games, but we should have fun. I don't plan on getting wound up in the competition of the games, I just want to enjoy myself. I hope every person feels the same! Check your overly competitive spirit at the door. This is ALL about fun!
