Brief Lindsey Bio:
Lindsey Adams Buckingham (once and future guitarist of Fleetwood Mac) was born in California on October 3, 1949. He is not only an excellent guitarist, but his musicianship also includes being an amazingly passionate singer, songwriter, and producer. That's right, I said producer!!! He co-produced Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977), Tusk (1979), Mirage (1982), Tango in the Night (1987), and The Dance (1997) (though he was only credited on Tango and The Dance)--plus, I am sure he had his hand in Fleetwood Mac (1975) and Live (1980). Rumours won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1977. Not to mention producing his four solo albums--1981's Law and Order, 1984's Go Insane, 1992's Out of the Cradle, and 2006's Under the Skin--he also played the majority of the songs without outside musicians on his solo efforts.
In the spring of 2003, Fleetwood Mac (now a foursome with Christine McVie in retirement)
released Say You Will. Lindsey produced and engineered the entire album.
My husband and I saw them in both Kansas City and Omaha. LB is better and wilder than ever.
He is a crazy man on the stage and didn't leave it for one second until the encores.
Absolutely amazing! In Fall 2006 (on LB's 57th birthday, 10/3), Lindsey released
his fourth solo cd, Under the Skin. Critics adore it. I adore it! 'Nuff said. As if
the new cd weren't enough, LB has promised a "more rockin'" cd in 2007. Heaven!
Happily, life isn't all about the music for him anyway (though the sound hasn't
suffered at all). On July 8, 1998, LB and Kristen Messner welcomed their first child,
William Gregory Buckingham, into the world. Lindsey and Kristen married in 2000 and had a daughter
named LeeLee Wells Buckingham on July 15, 2000. In an Australian interview in February 2004, LB
said that he and Kristen are expecting their third baby in April 2004.
Stella was born April 20, 2004.
He is truly a FAMILY MAN after all! Becoming a
father certainly hasn't taken his edge away. Say You Will and Under the Skin are
reminiscent of my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, 1979's Tusk.
Much more muscular and rockin'! LB and Stevie
(Nicks, that is, as well as John McVie on bass and Mick Fleetwood on drums)
have never sounded better than on the Say You Will. On November 16, 2003, FM won the American
Music Award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group — Pop or Rock. Lindsey's never sounded
better than at the TWO southern California concerts we attended in support
of his critically acclaimed SOLO CD, Under the Skin, in Fall 2006.
No resting on his laurels!
Buckingham began his career as a musician as part of a band called "The Fritz Rabyne Memorial Band" ("Fritz," for short) with a few classmates at Menlo-Atherton High School in California. One of his Fritz bandmates was Stevie Nicks with whom he was romantically and musically involved for several years after the break-up of Fritz. Their band (Buckingham Nicks) only released one record (the self-titled Buckingham Nicks), but that was enough to get the attention of Mick Fleetwood. Mick was actually just looking for a studio for Fleetwood Mac's next album. Upon hearing Lindsey's amazing guitarwork (while checking the sound of the studio), Fleetwood wanted to hire Buckingham for the Mac. Lindsey told Mick (in short order) that he wasn't coming without Stevie, and the rest, as they say, is history. If you want to hear the "rest of the story," peruse the following links. This page pales in comparison. Mr. Buckingham has been credited (more than once) with putting together the sound that launched Fleetwood Mac into superstardom in the 70's and 80's. It is little wonder that the Mac kinda went down the drain when he quit in 1987. Y'all know it's true! Suffice it to say, he is the MAN.
